Stocks sagged out of the starting gate Wednesday as a light economic calendar left earnings reports driving the bulk of early trading. The Nasdaq, S&P 500 and the Dow Jones industrial average all traded 0.2% lower. Volume rose about 7% on the Nasdaq and was down 2% on the NYSE compared with the same time Tuesday. Earnings news lifted some stocks, including GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and CVS Caremark (CVS) to narrow gains. Time Warner (TWX) bolted 5%
